Qualitative Fit Testing Train the Tester | In-Person

This Qualitative Fit Testing Train the Tester course is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively train and test others on respiratory protection in the workplace. This comprehensive 4-hour course covers various aspects focusing on roles and responsibilities, hazard identification, assessment and control, proper selection, use, maintenance and care of respirators, and fit testing techniques.

Description

Successful candidates will be given a certificate of completion, receive their annual fit test and receive a resource package. 

Required:  To complete this training, Fit testing requires either a half or full-face respirator on the day of training. Participants may choose to purchase a North 5500 Respirator with P100 filter set provided by the instructor for an additional $65. This can be added to your order at checkout.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the roles of employers, supervisors, and employees in ensuring respiratory protection compliance.
  • Purpose and Opportunity

Legislation: 

  • Overview of regulatory requirements and standards pertaining to respiratory protection 

Respiratory Protection Program: 

  • Comprehensive overview of Respiratory Protection Program elements

Hazard Identification, Assessment and Control:

  • Identifying workplace hazards that necessitate respiratory protection.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments to determine appropriate respiratory protection measures

PPE Selection, Use, Care and Inspection:

  • Understanding different types of respirators and their suitable applications.
  • Factors influencing respirator selection such as airborne contaminants, work environment, and individual considerations.

Respirator Fit-Testing:

  • Explanation of fit-testing methods with a focus on qualitative fit testing.
  • Addressing key training topics including respirator selection, proper use, limitations, and maintenance.
  • Instruction on correct donning and doffing procedures.
  • Emphasizing the importance of proper respirator fit and seal for maximum protection. Guidelines for cleaning, inspecting, and maintaining respirators.
  • Proper storage practices to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of respirators. Understanding the importance of health surveillance in respiratory protection programs. Identifying signs of respiratory distress and appropriate actions to take.

Record Keeping:

  • Documentation requirements for fit testing, training, maintenance, and health surveillance.
  • Maintaining accurate records to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards. Incident Reporting

Knowledge Based Exam and Practical Qualitative Fit Testing:

  • Students will be given a written proficiency evaluation and practical evaluation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice fit testing by applying qualitative fit testing techniques learned during the course.
  • Participants will practice providing general training to fit test participants.
  • All students will practice documenting fit test records.

Less than ten (10) business days before the course start date, and up to five (5) business days before the course start date: Refund of half (50%) course registration fees. No transfers to future course dates.  

Less than five (5) business days before the course start date and course no-shows: No refunds. No transfers to future course dates.  

Substitution of another member of your company/team is permitted up to the course start date for no additional fee.

Elyse Taylor is an accomplished health and safety professional with extensive expertise in various industries, including oil and gas, construction, and healthcare. With many years of hands-on experience as an OFA oilfield medic and an occupational health and safety manager, Elyse understands the unique challenges employers face in meeting their legislative and ethical health and safety responsibilities.

Elyse earned her CSO certification in 2013, showcasing her strong commitment to occupational safety. In her pursuit of continuous professional development, she obtained a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from Simon Fraser University in 2017. Elyse also holds the esteemed CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) designation from the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) and the NCSO® (National Construction Safety Officer) designation from the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA). These qualifications equip her with extensive knowledge and skills to expertly manage health and safety challenges across diverse environments.

Elyse currently serves as the Vancouver Island Regional Safety Advisor (RSA) for the British Columbia Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA). In this role, she assists BC construction employers in developing and implementing safety systems and processes that align with BC COR audit standards and WorkSafeBC compliance requirements.
