This course covers all aspects of working in a Confined Space, from entry and exit to safe work and rescue procedures.
Description
Over a 15-year period, 18 deaths occurred in confined spaces in British Columbia, more than one a year, according to WorkSafeBC statistics. Some estimates indicate more than 100 such deaths take place across Canada each year.
Confined space training is required for any individual who works in a confined space or restricted space, as well as those who are a stand-by person, or members of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
This course covers all aspects of working in a Confined Space, from entry and exit to safe work and rescue procedures.

- Recognize the characteristics that define a permit-required confined space

- Know the types of control measures used to ensure a space is safe
- Atmospheric Testing and Ventilation
- Conducting a proper pre-entry assessment and preparation of the confined space
- Understand the necessary procedures for working inside a confined space
- Know what to do in the event of a problem or emergency
- Rescue and Permitting Systems and Requirements
Course Format
- Self-paced e-learning course with animated and computerised voice-over slides, WorksafeBC and YouTube videos, and interactive quizzes
- About 2.5 hours of self-paced instruction
- Final Test: Your course completion certificate will not be released until you successfully complete the final test with an 80% passing grade. If you do not pass the final test with the required grade, you can continue to retest until you successfully pass.
Technical Requirements
- Internet connection is required
- Headphones or otherwise quiet space recommended as course requires listening to a significant amount of audio
- Device Compatibility: accessible via smartphone, tablet, and desktop/laptop computer
